Lord of the Rings Lego

Lego Lord of the Rings is a classic set of toys that has been around for many years, but is still popular today. Some of the original characters date back from before the turn of the century and make excellent collectors items.

Some of the better known games in the LOTR Lego sets include Hobbit Urak-Hai Army, Hobbit Attack on Weathertop, The Battle of Helm's Deep, Hobbit Shelob Attacks and The Mines of Moria.

These Lego sets appeal to adults and children alike. The mini figurines are very lifelike and high quality. The prices are very reasonable and start at 10 dollars for a single LOTR character up to a few hundred dollars for the larger sets.

Christmas Toys - What's Old is New Again

It's getting close to that time of the year again when we have to worry about what to buy everyone for Christmas. In our family we have an arrangement where we only buy presents for the kids (well actually grand kids). Otherwise the whole thing gets out of hand and you can spend the next three months paying off Christmas presents and I'm sure that's not what the whole thing is supposed to be about!

Being a Grandma, I like to buy my grand kids some toys that they really want, something that will make them happy. Let the parents worry about the boring presents like clothes and stuff! So what's new in kid's toys at the moment that's good value?

I'm looking at the Lord of the Rings Lego Sets, not only do my grandsons love Lego, it's time to introduce them to the wonderful world of the Lord of the Rings characters and stories. Where to buy these? Amazon is probably the cheapest and most reliable toy store on-line. So that's where I'll be going (or not going if you get my drift) No walking through crowded malls, no parking and no sore feet. Yay!

The Leapfrog Leappad 2 - Education and Fun Combined

It's getting pretty close to Christmas, whether we want to think about it or not! What to buy the kids that's good value for money and isn't going to be just chucked in a corner when Christmas day is over?

There are so many toys that are "must haves" for a few hours but the novelty soon wears off. The best toys are those that can teach kids some real skills, especially if they are something like Mum and Dad already have!

This is where the Leapfrog Leappad 2 tablet comes into it's own. It teaches kids how to use a tablet while keeping little sticky fingers off your own Ipad. It's actually referred to as the "Ipad for kids".

The Leappad 2 comes in two colors, pink - which is presumably for girls, and green - which is for... anybody I guess. It comes complete with camera and video recorder and pre-loaded with a few apps. Where were these things when I was a kid? I was playing with dolls and dinky toys (anyone remember them?) when I was young.

It looks like great fun, doesn't it? A good idea for the kid who has "everything".

Snoring - A Pain in the You Know What!

Ugh! snoring has to be the most annoying sleep disorder, because it affects not just you, but all those within earshot! Snoring means there is something wrong with the way you are breathing.

Snoring can also be quite risky for your health. If you snore, it would be a good idea to have yourself checked out for sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a dangerous sleep disorder where a person stops breathing for several seconds in a row. Sleep apnea can cause daytime drowsiness, lack of oxygen and all round poor health.

Natural treatments for snoring can be found in any pharmacy and some are more effective than others. There are throat sprays, nasal drops, pills and even  a snoring ring. All these gadgets have worked for some people, but they're not very reliable on the whole.

The best remedy I have found for snoring (short of surgery), is to perform a set of exercises to strengthen ther muscles around the throat. This stops the tissues collapsing into the airways, causing difficulty breathing.

Snoring is not a joke, it needs to be taken seriously. See your doctor today.

Do You Have A Child Who Can't Sleep?

Children don't normally have trouble sleeping, so if your child suddenly can't go to sleep, or wakes up during the night, it needs some investigating.

If the doctor can't find anything wrong, talk to your child and try to find a reason. Are they worried about something? Are they having trouble with their schoolwork? Are they being bullied? Some kids tend to clam up about their problems, so be persistent until you get to the bottom of the problem.

If there seems to be no valid reason for you child's sleep problem, it could be just a temporary setback. Make sure you child's room is comfortable and quiet. Keep any TV, mobile phones or computer games out of the bedroom as these can keep kids awake long past their bedtime. The bright light from these devices can interrupt their sleep cycle and cause insomnia.

Child sleep disorders can be overcome with a bit of patience and understanding. Make sure you nip them in the bud before they become a bad habit.

Insomnia - You're Not the Only One!

Insomnia is a very common sleep disorder affecting millions of people worldwide. What is insomnia exactly? It's the inability to go to sleep or to stay asleep. I don't know what's worse, staring at the ceiling trying to fall asleep, or waking up at 2 am, knowing you probably won't sleep again.

There's nothing good about insomnia. It affects you health, your relationships and you sense of well-being. Is there anything you can do about it?

Glad you asked! We all know the dangers of sleeping pills, however there are other options. The best remedies for insomnia are natural and there are many to choose from. You won't become addicted and you can take them long term. Click the above link to find out more.

Hate Christmas Shopping? Me Too!

Do you hate going shopping at Christmas time when everyone and their dog seems to be doing the same? This is why I've been going online lately for most of my purchases, especially when it comes to buying toys for the grandchildren.

You can buy some really cool kids toys online and it doesn't cost any more. Some on-line retailers offer free shipping as well. But what I really like about buying toys online is that I can read reviews that other purchasers have posted which really helps make a good buying decision.

Then of course there's the savings in gas and parking. Not to mention sore tired feet at the end of a long shopping trip!

Why I Love Cubic Zirconia Jewelry

Back in the days when I was growing up (a long time ago!), there was "real" jewelry made with gold, silver and precious stones, such as diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds. These pieces were, of course, very expensive.

Then there was "fake" jewelry which was considered cheap and nasty and usually made of inferior metals and glass stones. It looked good for a while, but soon tarnished and the stones started to fall out. However it was a lot cheaper and everyone could afford to have their own collection.

Nowadays we have the best of both world with beautiful cubic zirconia jewelry. Cubic zirconias are very similar to diamonds, except the are man made instead of mined from the ground. Cubic zirconia jewelry can be very classy and several jewelry designers have made their own special collections featuring these beautiful stones.

People can't tell the difference between cubic zirconias and real diamonds - unless they're a trained jeweler of course. I absolutely love them!

My Favorite Things

I've lived in many places but finally settled in Queensland, Australia, due to the sunny relaxed lifestyle and freedom. My interests are natural health and I've built a few websites over the years to try to help people with their health problems.

I am now retired, but feel too energetic to just sit back and do nothing, so I'll be sitting at that computer, pounding the keyboard for many years to come. Luckily I have a friend for company - see pic below - who sits faithfully by the computer waiting for "mum" to get up and play with her.

I am also interested in buying toys and other children's things, having a couple of grandchildren to indulge! Last but not least I have a real weakness for sparkling jewelry. My mum used to tell me it was not in good taste to wear jewelry that wasn't made with real diamonds, or other precious stones. Thankfully these days things have changed.

Welcome to anyone who reads this and I hope we can connect and become friends.
